Fish, just like humans, need an appropriate temperature for them to grow healthy and to ward off illness. The freshwater aquarium temperature must be in a range that fish inside the tank can easily adapt to. Fish regulate their body heat by the aquarium temperature of the water around them, since they are cold blooded. This is why it is necessary that the water temperature in fish tanks be regulated especially during winter and summer months.

If you are living in a temperate region that has seasons where the temperature varies significantly within a year, the need for a heater for the aquarium is essential. Along with the water temperature, the oxygen level can fluctuate although should not be an issue with proper recirculation by your filter system. Tropical fish are used to temperatures up to 80 degrees Fahrenheit, sometimes warmer. There are heating elements available that continually keep a steady freshwater aquarium temperature in the aquarium.

Some of the commonly used fish aquarium heaters are heating rods that can regulate the temperature, programmable thermostats that set and regulate the temperature making it easier for owners to control the temperature of the aquarium. You have to set the proper temperature according to the type of fish in your tank, otherwise, your fish will suffer and not survive.

When choosing fish to place in your aquarium, you should do a little research in regards to their temperature preferences. Talk to your local aquarium fish professional as to, which fish prefer similar water temperatures and will live well together.

After choosing all the fish with the best care and research, you can now acquire them and place them inside your tank. The freshwater aquarium temperature must be set beforehand, and don’t make major adjustments to the temperature after placing all the fish inside the tank.

There are many things to consider for setting up the perfect aquarium, the temperature being very important. The freshwater aquarium temperature will need to be maintained for keeping healthy fish in the tank and will restrict whether you raise a cold water or tropical fish community.
